I Was a Teenage Prehistoric Forest!

This is the Prehistoric Forest in Irish Hills Michigan. My family went there when I was much younger. I just found out it closed a number of years ago. But it's still there. The giant fiberglass dinosaurs, grossly inaccurate and as much fantasy as history, silent in the forest. Can you imagine stumbling onto a place like this at night?

Nearby is the Mystery Hill, where gravity is defied. We stopped there, too. It, though, remains in business. I wonder what that signifies?

(back to regular updates maybe soon)

huh, I have a vague and creepy memory of going there with my family when I was a tot, too! I also remember it being night time and food that tasted like Denny's on a bad day.

Of course, my brain could be hijacking memories from your post to cover up those of the cold months upon months I spent locked in that boiler room with nothing but a sliver of light and a mario brothers happy meal toy to keep me company.

::ahem::

I can definitely recall there being a train of some sort that you went around in, called, from what I can find online, "the safari train." I've also read that the prehistoric forest is about 8 acres.

It's funny to think of how many people have memories of going to this entirely bizarre roadside attraction, after its 30-some years of business. One person online has a photo album of going back to the Prehistoric Forest with her kids, because she wanted them to have an experience like she had when she was their age. The place was closed by then, though, so she had them look through the fence. She said her kids were really confused by why their mother had gotten so excited about bringing them there.

Don't get me wrong, I love the vague and odd memories I have of that place. Few things make me as happy as dinosaurs, even when they're made of fiberglass and designed largely from fantasty. Even now it's kind of endearing, all weird and lonely.

And how many times have we been over this? That's not mario in toy form, that's Cara, in sister form. Sheesh.

You mean you didn't intend to say it was fan-tasty? I loved that...

Remember at the mystery spot when they had us sit in chairs against the wall to demonstrate some thrilling feat of anti-gravity, because we were the same size? No one thinks we're twins any more. I can't imagine why...

I've been reading this post for months. A dying blog...totally depressing. Just like the dinosaurs.

There's one of these in Marblehead, Ohio that can be seen in Tommy Boy (before it was sold and fixed up and reopened). THAT one used to have a tram, and also has a Mystery Hill. Marblehead is near Cedar Point and I suspect some of you might be mixing up the two parks.
